Scott Gallawa – Fine Jewelry with Artistic Precision

I made my first jewelry back in 1970, while attending the University of Maryland. A friend was dabbling in this art and I was intrigued.
At first I used sheet silver and wire of different gauges. I felt limited using this fabrication technique, and began to learn the Lost Wax Casting Technique. This method is probably the most ancient process for making different metal shapes and was used by civilizations ranging from the Incas to the Vikings. Despite the technical challenges, it provides me the freedom I need to create the forms and the jewelry I see in my mind.
I find it exciting to make models out of wax and cast them into silver and gold. Items that will last forever!
